Fort Sam 

Fort Sam Houston, perhaps more recognizably known as Fort Sam, is a US Army post in San Antonio. It is located in Bexar County a mere 15 minutes from downtown San Antonio. It was named for Sam Houston, the first President of the Republic of Texas. This base is one of the largest medical training facilities with a well regarded reputation as “Home of Army Medicine” and “Home of the Combat Medic”. Brook Army Medical Center and Fort Sam Houston contribute greatly to the economy of the area along with many Fortune 500 companies and large corporations that are headquartered in San Antonio. 

The real estate market around Fort Sam is like the economy; strong and viable. Housing is abundant on base but many retired military members and military personnel chose to find off site real estate options. The majority of the real estate market is made up of single family homes, condos and vacant land. Fort Sam's location affords easy travel to and from San Antonio where a wide array of cultural, entertainment and recreation opportunities await. Fort Sam offers a variety of activities and entertainment on base ranging from golf to horseback riding and fishing. 

Children of military personnel attend military schools on base. Fort Sam schools are dedicated to providing a challenging curriculum for the students so they will be properly prepared for college. For those that wish to attend college, numerous public and private universities are located in San Antonio.  

Fort Sam is a military base that is conveniently located in close proximity to San Antonio where all amenities are available. What you cannot find on base will be easily found in beautiful San Antonio.
