Schertz

Schertz is a vibrant city that is currently experiencing record growth. On July 16, 2007 CNNMoney rated Schertz as: One of the Best Places to Live in the United States. Schertz was ranked #1 in Texas and #40 nationwide. Jumping from 26,463 to 34,000 in 2006 alone, this trend is showing no signs of slowing down.

Schertz is located in Comal, Bexar, and Guadalupe Counties and is the largest city of the Randolph Metrocom which consists of communities that surround Randolph Air Force Base.

Settled in the late 1840's, Schertz had an economy based on cotton and other farm crops. The town grew as more settlers came. In 1867 the railroad came to Schertz giving the residents opportunity for travel and a way to get their products to San Antonio. The next big growth event in Schertz history was the US government building of the Randolph Air Force Base. The site for the base was chosen because it had less fog than anywhere else in the area.

People in Schertz say “the sun shines brighter here”. There is always something going on here to make folks smile. Eat cotton candy and drink cold lemonade at the 4th of July Jubilee and Parade which includes a carnival, free musical entertainment, fun, food and crafts. In late September the annual Schertz Fest is where you can catch big name performers, food, beverages and more. In November go to the Senior Arts and Crafts Bazaar to kick off the holidays. The Wedding Parade is held the last Sunday in November at the Schertz Civic Center. Over 75 vendors make this one of the largest wedding shows in the state of Texas. At the Festival of Angels in December you can play in the manufactured REAL SNOW while listening to free music and enjoying free food.

In addition to the activities available in Schertz, there is an endless list of things to see and do within an hour's drive from Schertz. There are spectacular lakes, rivers and state parks where you can spend your time enjoying your outdoor hobbies. Within 45 minutes you can cool off at Splashtown, visit the dolpins at SeaWorld or visit Fiesta Texas or Shlitterbahn. Being in close proximity to San Antonio makes access to museums, shopping, fine dining, theater, college and pro sports events and other features of metro life readily available for Schertz residents.

This active community has 18 parks, sports programs year round with the Buffalo Valley Youth Association, a junior Olympic sized pool open to the public in the summer and the Northcliffe Golf Club. This community is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for its youth.

If you are looking for a very active community devoted to making life a great experience for all residents, come visit Schertz and see for yourself why “the sun shines brighter here”.
